Visual Arts and Integrated Technology Department

The Visual Arts Program is planned to strengthen the student’s powers of observation, memory, imagination, judgment, and construction. The program also helps to prepare portfolios for college-bound students as they prepare for careers in art related fields. Students who plan to major in art or art-related fields in college are encouraged to enroll in art courses as early as possible. A minimum of three years of art is required in order to prepare a college portfolio at the beginning of senior year.

The Visual Arts program consists of the study of design theory, studio art or art production, and art history. The curriculum is designed to present specific lessons in theory along with the presentation of a variety of media. As a student progresses, new and more challenging theory problems and media are introduced. This study incorporates the use of technology, digital slides, printed material, videos, and often students view actual works during museum visits. This program strives to give each student a broad background in the field of art. It offers a mixture of tradition and basics with experimentation and creativity.

Student work is exhibited in the Doran Gallery and submitted to local, regional, and national contests.
