Summer Academy FAQ
What is this program for?
The BFHS Summer Academic Academy provides an opportunity for incoming freshmen to be ‘oriented’ to Feehan and high school in general. Review of needed math skills, English skills, and the expectations of BFHS will be covered. Students will be exposed to teachers, administrators, and current students at Feehan. Additionally, most students who have participated in similar programs have had a significant reduction in anxiety associated with the opening of Freshman year.
Additional benefits include:
Instruction in high school "survival" skills:
- how to study and take notes
- how to prepare for a high school test/exam
- how to use the library
- how to avoid discipline problems at BFHS
- how to motivate yourself, through successful goal-setting, to achieve success
Is it a remedial program or “Summer School”?
No. The students who enroll will be grouped by their placement in math and English. Students of all levels will participate.
Is there a dress code?
Yes and No. The attire will be casual, comfortable, yet appropriate for a Catholic school. A dress code will be mailed with your confirmation letter.
Can I register for only one week?
Generally, space is only allocated for students who can attend both weeks. Those students are given priority. Teachers are hired for the two week period; therefore, if a student cannot attend the entire session, there is not a reduced rate.
Can I send my SAA fee along with the deposit for the 9th grade?
No. These accounts are separate. The checks should be made out to Feehan Summer Academic Academy and mailed to Bill Runey’s attention.
What materials will be needed?
Two notebooks, pencils, pens, a pocket folder, a calculator, and one dollar bills for the vending machines.
For additional questions, please email Bill Runey (bruney@bishopfeehan.com) or call the school at 508.226.6223.
