Essay Contests and Related Information

MIAA Girls and Women in Sport Essay Contest:  Contest is open to all students in grades 9-12 at MIAA member schools.   First place will win $500.00, second place $300.00 and third $200.00.  Essays must not exceed 500 words. Deadline for submission is December 2, 2011. Essays may be emailed to jmartin@miaa.net, faxed to 508.541.9888 or mailed to MIAA Girls and Women in Sport Essay Contest, Attn: Jan Martin, 33 Forge Parkway, Franklin, MA 02038. The theme for the essay is 'Title IX at 40: In it for the Long Run."

The Massachusettes Society Sons of the American Revolution: Essay Contest for 10th-12th grade students with essays with original research about an event, person, philosophy or idea associated with the American Revolution, Declaration of Independence or United States Constitution. Awards are $250.00 for the state winner and $500.00-$2,000.00 for the national winners.  Oration Contest for all high school students who cast the events of today in a way that draws an intelligent relationship between past and present and demonstrates the freedom of opportunity that is a basic right of our national heritage. The Reverend Martin Luther King Memorial Committee of Greater Attleboro: Remembering Jim Crow Essay Contest is open to all school aged children. The essay should include your thoughts and feelings about Jim Crow laws and social customs and the fate of Emmett Till. It should also include an explanation of what was Jim Crow, how it came into existence and what you have learned from this exercise. The essay should be 500 words maximum, typed double spaced or neatly written. The deadline is December 5, 2011. Entries can be emailed to ethel.garvin@gmail.com or mailed to the MLK Committee, P.O. Being An American Essay Contest: High school students are invited to participate in the Bill of Rights Institute's essay contest. The top three students from each of the five geographical regions will be awarded cash prizes of $1,000.00 (First Place), $500.00 (Second Place), and $250.00 (Third Place). The essay question is "How does the Constitution establish and maintain a culture of liberty?" Deadline for the essay is December 15, 2011. The Gallery Collection's 5th Annual Create-A-Greeting-Card $10,000 Scholarship ContestStudents have a chance to win $10,000 towards their education plus a $1,000 award for their school! Entering the contest is easy! Students must submit a unique photo, piece of artwork, or computer graphic for the front of a greeting card. 11th Annual MIAA Student Sportsmanship Essay/Multimedia Contest.  The MIAA Sportsmanship Committee invites students in grades 9-12 to submit entries on this year's theme: "How Can Student-Athletes Make a Difference in the Community?”

 The authors of the top three contest entries, as selected by the MIAA Sportsmanship Committee, will be awarded prizes of $500, $300 and $200 respectively and honored during the 18th Annual MIAA Sportsmanship Summit on Friday, November 18 at Gillette Stadium.  In addition, a compilation of finalist and honorable mention entries will be published in Volume XI of "Sportsmanship: A Game Plan for Life."

 ALL ENTRIES for this contest MUST BE RECEIVED by noon on Thursday, October 20, 2011.

 The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards is available to high school students who have volunteered in their school and community. Winners will receive $1,000.00 and a trip to Washington, DC.
