Football

On Friday October 26 the Bishop Feehan Shamrocks won a great football game against cross-town rival Attleboro. Statistically the game was very even. In first downs BF (17) AHS (14), in total yardage BF (250) AHS 248), in rushing BF (212) AHS (181), in passing BF (53) AHS (81), these stats were indicative of the 15-14 score that the two rivals played to. The key play came when Feehan was able to stop, by just a few inches; a two-point conversion attempt by Attleboro went for the win with just 3 minutes left. Senior Quarterback Mike McGowan (6-10, 53 yards) threw to tight end Matt Linehan for an 8-yard touchdown, after which McGowan ran in the conversion out of an unusual formation for an 8-0 lead with 1:35 left in the opening quarter. The next scoring drive saw the Shamrocks starting on their own 7, however Senior Nick Schwieger was able to lead them out of danger by carrying the ball seven times for 56 yards. Nick Linehan added a pair of first-down catches, then Nick Schwieger was stopped just short of the goal on an 11-yard run, and Mike McGowan was able to cap the 11-play, 93-yard march with 1-yard keeper. Boulter's kick made it 15-8 with 9:51 to play. The Shamrocks next play Durfee in a non-league game on Friday night.

On Saturday October 20th the Varsity Football team spoiled the Spartans of Bishop Stang's Homecoming festivities with a 25-7 victory. Senior quarterback Mike McGowan threw for a pair of touchdowns, his first of the season, to lead the way for the Shamrocks. In addition to his throwing arm (5-of-8 passing for 81 yards), his legs ran eight times for 28 yards. Senior running back Nick Schwieger also added a TD while piling up 136 yards on 23 carries. After trailing 7-0 after Stang's opening touchdown drive, McGowan would hook up with junior wide receiver Matt Boulter for the Shamrocks first score, Boulter would add the PAT to tie the score. Boulter would then add a field goal with just a few clicks left on the clock before halftime. The score remained 10-7 until 10:23 remaining in the fourth quarter when Nick Schwieger scored on a 6 yard run. At a critical point in the game, the mighty Shamrocks stoped Stang cold on a great goal line stand and were then able to drive the ball the length of the field and score on a TD pass from McGowan to senior tight end Nick Linehan securing the 25-7 victory.

Saturday September 29: The J.V. Football team defeated LaSalle by a score of 21-7. Coach Deja, had high praise for the sub-varsity team. With LaSalle packing in the defense and daring the Shamrocks to pass, Pass they did. Tommy Romero had 3 more TD passes. This time he hooked up with freshman Nate Robetaille on one score and added two more TD passes to Sophomore Joe Knaub. The J.Voes go on Saturday v. a very strong Mansfield team. Go Shamrocks.

Monday September 24: J.V. Football team defeat the Hingham Harbormen 27-21.

Dan Effler, twin brother of injured Tom Effler had a great game on defense. He was involved in many tackles but it was his two interceptions, one returned for a TD, that lead the Shamrocks to their victory. Also having a great game was the combination of Tom Romero to Mike Albert, who hooked up for an 82  yard TD reception along with a 50 yard reception that brought the Shamrocks down to the 1 yard line, where Kevin Boland bowled his way in for a TD. Tom and Mike would hook up also on a 25  yard strike to pay dirt. Good job J.V.'s.

Friday September 21: The Shamrocks had a great game tonight. Quarterback Mike McGowan rushed for 166 yards and four TD's. Senior Captain Nick Schwieger also had a great game rushing for 70 yards and an interception in the 4th to help secure the victory. Final score Feehan 28, Hingham 14.

Our prayers go out to Mynor Chacon and Tom Effler, who were both injured in Friday night's action. According to Tom's father as of Saturday morning, Tom was doing fine, suffered a severe concussion and was at home resting.

Volleyball: A message from Coach Joe--
Well the Volleyball Season came to an end last night, at Milford HS against an exceptional Medfield Team, in the State Division 2 Semi Final.

We had a great season at 21-2, an EAC Championship, the First South Sectional Championship in my 16 seasons, a Championship in the Rhode Island Breast Cancer Tournament and Victory of our own Hosting Attleboro back on Sept 29 in our Breast Cancer Match raising Awareness and close to $4600.00 and as one of our signs said, "Help Us get ONE POINT Closer to a CURE" The Feehan Family has stepped up all season and should be very proud of these girls, all of our teams and our students in general.

The support of the faculty, staff and the students has been outstanding; I have received more compliments from opposing parents, game officials and even the opposing coaches about our Fans. You were GREAT!!!!

For All the Coaches, Players and Team Managers involved with the Volleyball teams THANK YOU!!!!!

11/08/08: It was a great Friday/Saturday for a few of the Shamrock teams. It started off Friday night when the football team demolished the Hilltoppers of Durfee by a score of 35-0. Ted Schwieger and Bryan Webb both scored two TD's for the victory. On Saturday a few of the Shamrock teams participated in the MIAA Tournament. It started off this morning when the girls Cross Country Team won a fourth straight Class C Championship and the 6th in seven years. Jen Thomas and Viviana Hanley led the way with a 6th and 7th place finish. The lady shamrocks far outdistanced their closest competitor when they scored 63 points with second place went to Wellesley with 122 points. A total of 32 teams competed.
In the boys soccer game: Neil Johnson led the way when he scored 2 of the 4 goals scored against Dedham at McGrath Stadium.
The highlight of the day came when the girls volleyball team won their very first South Sectional Tournament game when they defeated Bourne High School at Wareham 3-0. All three games were close, but the depth of the lady shamrocks proved to be too much for the Canalmen.
The girls soccer team plays Sunday afternoon at 1:00pm.
10/28/08 Volleyball: Volleyball Senior Night 2008
Bishop Feehan vs. Melrose
Our Junior Varsity Team got things started with a very exciting 2-1 victory
over a very good Melrose squad. After losing the first game 25-15 and being down in that
game at one point by the score of 20-4 the JV squad bounced back and took game 2, 25-15.
Game 3 was well a great back a forth match with the Rocks finally taking the game 27-25.
Our JV team finished their season at 18-0.
We honored our 7 Seniors tonight before the start of the Varsity match, for their 4 great years
of Volleyball, leadership, friendship and dedication. Jackie Atkinson, Cary Kaczowka, Amy Lepley,
Jess Nolan, Lauren Walsh and Steph Whooten have been together on the court for the past 4 years
and our Team Manager Maria Agostini has been in charge of our Scoretable since her freshmen year. The underclassmen did a great job honoring each of them in the pre match ceremony.
After a great JV match and Senior presentation we decided to play a very competative volleyball match with a very good Melrose team who came into the match with a 20-1 record. The Rocks played a great match taking Melrose in 3 straight, 25-16, 25-23 and 25-21. Contributions came from every where, Steph Whootens 15 assists and strong service game (16 attempts, 1 ace, 0 errors 10 points) lead the Shamrocks in both catagories. Cary Kaczowka finished the match going 6 for 6 in serve receive passing to go along with 5 of 6 passing, Lauren Walsh also had a good S/R day at 10 for 10 and defensively going 7 for 9. Also serving well for the Rocks was Jess Nolan who had 15 attempts, 1 ace, 1 error and 9 points from the service stripe and chipped in with 14 digs. The offence ran through the Middle in Amy Lepley and the Outside in Jackie Atkinson with Amy throwing down 18 kills and 5 blocks and Jackie pounding down 17 kills and digging 16. This was a great tune up for the up coming MIAA Division 2 State Tournament. Congrats to out Seniors and the team for another out standing season, Tournament pairings will be announced Wed 10/29 and should be in Thu 10/30 newspapers.

"This is something we started thingking about at the beginning of the season. We knew we had some talented players but we didn't know how things would play out," said coach Pariseau." The victory over Coyle and Cassidy 6-0-2 in the league gave the Shamrocks a share of the League title with Somerset. Junior Dan Galvin set up the firlst goal at 7:42 getting Kyle Morrissey the ball as he put it in the corner for a 1-0 lead. Corey Cassarella scored from Drew Rowles to go up 2-0. The Paul and Dan show dominated the second half. Dan set up Paul at 1:30, then Mike Doherty tallied the 4th goal and then Dan set up Paul again to get the 5th goal. Victory Over Connolly: Coach Mike Pariseau said, "We controlled play, we created a lot of opportunities, we moved the ball well and had some great point-blank shots." The Galvin brother's combined for 3/5 of the Feehan output. "We have won 3 or 4 games in a row, and the team has been playing real well lately" said Dan Galvin. Justin Barrett made it 4-0 with a penalty kick, after a take down penalty in the box. Tony Cichetti scored the 5th goal off an assist from Neal Johnson.
