Saturday October 13:
Talk about your perfect running conditions!!! On the boys side, the day was started off by an impressive performance from the Junior Varsity squad as they captured 2nd, 3rd, 14th, 15th, and 16th just to mention a few. Junior Bill Warren led the way with his 18:21 time for 3.1 miles Senior Captain Neil Dold was oh, so close with a time of 18:22, next came Sophomore Ed Lyons (18:55), Senior Captain Mike Umberger (19:01), and Junior Scott McGuire with a PR of 19:08. If a team score had been used, the JV's would have had a convincing margin of victory. With the tone set, the Varsity boys followed suit. The pack mentality carried the day for the Shamrocks. Sophomore Bobby McShane led the way again with his 14th place finish with a time of 17:16, not far behind and at positions 21, 22, and 23 Dave Phipps (17:24) John Cook (17:25), and Nate Bowditch (17:26) kept the pack close. What makes for a good team is when your top seven runners can place higher than the other teams 5th runner. Except for Hopedale's 5th runner Feehan's top seven were very good. Rounding out the top 7 were Ethan Loew (48th 17:54), Pat Lucas (49th 17:54.4), and Joe Germaine 55th 18:02). When your top 7 are only 46 seconds apart, you have the makings of a very good team. These performances are what led the Shamrocks to their 1st place finish in the Division II Bay State Invitational Race.
On the girls side a trio of JV runners set the same tone. With a 3rd place finish by Sophomore Jill Lynch (PR 21:55), a 13th place by Senior Skyler Lapuc (22:31) and a 20 place performance by Sophomore Carolyn Atwill (22:58) the Varsity girls felt confident that they could bounce back from their sub par performance at the Ocean State Invitational. Bounce back they did. Sophomore Jen Thomas had a breakout race when she place 6th overall with a PR time of 19:30. Only 6 seconds behind and in 7th place was Junior Katie Barrett (19:36). With more pack running being established the girls team was also able to emerge victorious at the Bay State Invitational. Finishing in 20th was Mary St. Thomas (20:15) in 22nd was Anisa Arsenault (20:18) and in 25th was Meg Looney (20:36). Finishing out the top seven and both running PR's were Grace Johnson (35th 21:04) and Kristen Lovering (60th 21:33). Next up for both the boys and girls will be Coyle and Cassidy at home on Wednesday Oct. 17.
Saturday October 6:
The boys top seven ran a valiant race, but the Cougars of Whitman-Hanson showed why they are one of the top teams in all of Massachusetts. Bobby McShane finished in 6th to led a the young Shamrock team to victories over Brockton and Xevarian. McShane was joined by Dave Phipps (8), John Cook (10), Ethan Loew (12), Nate Bowditch (14), Pat Lucas (15), and Joe Germaine (16). BF-49 W-H 16 ------------- BF-21 Brockton-40 ------------ BF-15 Xer.-50
P.S. Xervarian did not run their top 7 in preperation for their showdown with St. John's Prep. Coach L'Homme believes we would have beaten The X team.
The girls team remained undefeated 9-0 with victories over Fontbonne and Brockton.
Wednesday October 3:
The boys were able to take the top 11 places today. Our two captains Neil Dold and Mike Umberger ran stride for stride with junior Bill Warren and Sophomore Ed Lyons. Excitement got the better of young Ed Lyons who surged ahead with 7 strides to go, but coach L'Homme gave the foursome the same time and a four-way tie for first place. Following those four were sophomore Alex Murray, junior Scott Maguire, freshmans Kevin O'Brien and Tom Marcotte, followed by junior Dave Stein and sophomore Greg Walker.
On the girls side junior Kristen Lovering and sophomore Jill Lynch turned in an excellent performance. By crossing the finish line together, the two of them gained their first varsity victories. Also, holding out the top 5 girls the rest of the team did not miss a beat. Only 2 seconds off the leaders was another sophomore Carolyn Atwill. Finishing 5th was senior Grace Johnson, next came freshman Bridgid Garrity, Marie Atwill, Sophomore Kelsey Bedard, and freshman Katie Gaughan. See EDLine for full results.
On Saturday September 29th the boys Cross Country Team had an outstanding showing at the Inaugural New Balance Ocean State Invitational. High lights of the day was the Varsity boys 2nd place finish in the Division I Race. The boys J.V. team finished 1st in their race. Captain Mike Umberger was out leaned to finish 2nd in his race.
Sophomore Jen Thomas led the lady Shamrocks with her personal best time for this tough 3.1 mile course. Jen ran a solid 20:02. Another sophomore Anisa Arsenault was 46 seconds behind with a time of 20:48.
In the Girls J.V. race Jill Lynch and Carolyn Atwill had personal best times of 22:45 and 22:51 respectively.
Grace Johnson lead from start to finish, as she was determined to get her first varsity victory. It was a hot afternoon at Durfee High School's new track stadium. With no shade and a significant hill at the 1.5 mile mark, Grace ran a respectable time of 21:38 for the 5K (3.1) distance. Also having good races for the Shamrocks were Skyler Lapuc (22:28 3rd), and Jill Lynch (22:56 4th). Rounding out the top ten Feehanites were:
Carolyn Atwill 23:41 ----- Alyssa Perreault 25:07 ----- Bridgid Garrity 25:41 ----- Marie Atwill 25:52 --- Kelsey Bedard 25:56 ---- Kaitlynn Gaughan 26:01 and Beth Looney 26:13.
