Feehan Senior Wins Writing Award

Bishop Feehan High School principal Bill Runey commended senior Rachel Riendeau of Pawtucket for receiving a 2007 National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Achievement Award in Writing.  Schools nationwide nominated 1,937 juniors for the award, and judges chose 595 students as outstanding writers.  Each piece of writing submitted by a nominee was read and evaluated by two judges – one high school and one college English teacher. Careful selection of students and the judges’ conscientious and sensitive reading of their entries ensured that only outstanding student writers were selected for the award.  The winners are among the best student writers in the country.  “The superior achievement of each winner is a reflection of the teachers and English program at [Bishop Feehan],” comments Kent Williamson, Executive Director of NCTE.

Certificates of commendation were presented to both Riendeau and the Bishop Feehan English Department.
