Feehan Announces Semifinalist in the 2008 National Merit Scholarship Program
Bishop Feehan High School senior Amanda Burlone of Foxboro was recently named as a semifinalist in the 2008 National Merit Scholarship Program. Approximately 16,000 semifinalists were selected from among 1.4 million juniors who participated in the program. These academically talented high school seniors will have the opportunity to continue in the competition for some 8,200 Merit Scholarships awards, worth $34 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, Burlone must advance to the Finalist level of the competition by fulfilling several requirements including maintaining her outstanding academic record throughout high school, earning SAT scores that confirm her earlier qualifying test performance, and being endorsed and recommended by Principal Bill Runey. About 90 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and approximately half of the Finalists will be selected as Merit Scholarship winners, earning the Merit Scholar title.
