MRSA Information

Information was recently received from the Department of Public Health regarding Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). MRSA is a type of bacteria that is resistant to some kinds of antibiotics and MRSA infections are becoming more common in community settings, including in schools and among athletic teams.

It is important for parents and students to be aware of the signs and symptoms of MRSA, when to seek medical attention and most importantly, how to protect against MRSA. As requested by the State of Massachusetts as part of its community education campaign, we would like to provide this information.

On this site you will find questions and answers about MRSA as well as tips for students and parents about how to protect against skin infections. If you have any questions regarding this information or about other concerns, please feel free to call the school nurse or visit the MDPH website at www.mass.gov/dph and search for MRSA.
