Isolation and exposure guidance and protocols

The below protocols reflect current policy for all Bishop Feehan students and staff. As always, we will continue to monitor latest COVID trends and guidance and adjust when and if necessary.
Note: all Feehan community members are welcome to wear masks any time, any day at their own discretion.
COVID-19 symptoms
- Fever (100.0° Fahrenheit or higher), chills, or shaking chills
- Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
- New loss of taste or smell
- Muscle aches or body aches
- Cough (not due to other known cause, such as chronic cough)
- Sore throat, when in combination with other symptoms
- Nausea, vomiting, when in combination with other symptoms
- Headache, when in combination with other symptoms
- Fatigue, when in combination with other symptoms
- Nasal congestion or runny nose (not due to other known causes, such as allergies), when in combination with other symptoms
If you have symptoms of Covid-19
- Individuals who develop symptoms before the start of the school day should test at home before coming to school. If that test is negative, they can come to school and participate in activities. A second test within 48 hours is recommended. Wearing a mask is encouraged until symptoms resolve.
Note: even if a test is negative, we highly encourage all those feeling ill to remain home from school as a sick day. While COVID has dominated our thinking for several years, illnesses like strep throat and flu also spread quickly in a school environment.
- Individuals who develop symptoms during the school day may remain at school if their symptoms are mild and they receive an on-site negative test result in the nurse’s office. Students who have or demonstrate more serious symptoms or those who do not test at school will be sent home. Those students would then be subject to the “if you have symptoms (before school)” protocol (above) the next morning. Students who test positive at school will be sent home and then subject to the “if I test positive” protocol.
If you test positive for Covid-19
- Students and staff who test positive must isolate for at least 5 days. The day of the first positive test is considered “Day Zero”. Positive COVID diagnoses should be reported to the school nurse via email.
- If they are asymptomatic or symptoms are resolving and they have been fever free without the use of fever-reducing medicine for 24 hours, they may return to school after Day 5 and should wear a high-quality mask through Day 10.
- If the individual has a negative test on Day 5 or later, they do not need to wear a mask.
What to do following a known exposure to Covid-19
- There is no longer close contact tracing or notifications going on. Close-contact quarantine is no longer required nor recommended for students or staff in the school setting, regardless of vaccination status or where the exposure occurred.
- Individuals who know they were a close contact to a positive case may continue to attend school activities as long as they remain asymptomatic. (free from symptoms). Mask wearing is recommended in this situation. At-home testing is recommended on Day 6 after known exposure.
- Whether a close contact or not, any individual developing symptoms should follow the “if I show symptoms” protocol above.
