Summer Packet Letter

Dear Parents/Guardians,

This is a very important email. I ask that you set aside some time to carefully and completely review the information contained here. We hope you are enjoying your summer. We wanted to highlight some of the information available on our website and answer some frequently asked questions regarding senior pictures, sports and next year’s calendar. Please note our school calendar is “tentative”. However, we hope this will help families plan vacations for the Christmas Holiday and February/April school vacation weeks. As always, the end of the school year must remain fluid because of snow/makeup days.

Academics

Parents and students should look carefully through the information found on our academics webpage. This page has important information, especially concerning technology, gmail, and iPad information, and information on textbooks.

Athletics

All participants must have a valid physical (within the last 13 months). Physicals should be sent to Donna Paulhus at [email protected], department administrative assistant or Brian Stefanik, athletic trainer at [email protected].

All participants must register on Family ID. Registrations are done by season: fall, winter and spring.  Please note you can only register for one sport per season.

ImPact Testing is done every two years. All incoming freshmen, rising juniors and transfer students will need to take the test. Testing is done at home on a computer. Please email Brian Stefanik at [email protected] for a link to take the test.

Fall Try-outs

Football begins on August 18, 2022

All other fall sports, cross country, field hockey, golf, soccer, and volleyball, begin on August 22, 2022. Specific times have not been set, times will be posted on the web-site in August.

For questions pertaining to specific sports, please contact the coach directly. Head coaches are listed on our web site under Inside Athletics.

Band
Fall Pep Band rehearsal will be held August 16-18 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. If you need additional information please reach out to Joe Taylor at [email protected].

Calendar
The website calendar is the most up-to-date location to get information about events, but we understand it is helpful to have a quick easy reference as well. Please see one page summary of the tentative calendar for the 2022-2023 school year.

Campus Ministry
Many freshmen families have questions about Campus Ministry and graduation service requirements.  Whether you are a new family to Bishop Feehan or just need a refresher, please see up to date information on the website under Faith/Campus Ministry/Serve. Freshman can use this attached form to track any volunteer hours this summer.

Dress Code/Uniforms
Attire and grooming is a visual representation of a student’s connection to the school. It is expected that the uniform will be neat, clean, and in satisfactory condition. Please take a moment to review the Dress Code guidelines. Uniforms can be purchased through Donnelly’s School Apparel in Cranston, RI. Please visit Donnelly’s Clothing for online ordering and to make an appointment if needed.

Driver’s Education
Information about Driver’s Education can be found on our website under Student Life/Student Resources. Online classes are offered by an independent contractor who meets the state requirements. Students must be 15 years and 9 months old to start the class.

Nurse’s Notes/Medical Matters
Epi Pens

Please take time over the summer months to attend to the paperwork that is required for students who have life-threatening allergies that require the use of an Epi Pen. The pens and the doctor’s order should be ready for, and are expected, on the first day of school.

Diabetic Orders
All diabetic orders are needed by the beginning of the school year.

For any medical questions, please do not hesitate to contact our new school nurse, Theresa Javery at [email protected] or 508-226-6223 x117. She will start at the end of August.

Pictures/Yearbooks

Undergraduate Pictures
Students in grades 9-11 will have pictures taken for the yearbook on their Orientation Day. An envelope from Chestnut Hill Studios will be mailed to your home in the event you wish to purchase a school picture or package. You are under no obligation to purchase. Students not in compliance with all uniform guidelines, including hair/facial hair guidelines, will not be photographed.

Senior Pictures
Seniors must have their yearbook picture taken by Chestnut Hill Studios. School uniforms are not required, however dress must be appropriate, including a shirt and tie for the boys. You are under no obligation to purchase pictures from Chestnut Hill, but only pictures taken by Chestnut Hill will appear in the yearbook. Appointments can be made between now and August 31. Look for a package in the mail from Chestnut Hill.

Yearbooks

Members of the Class of 2023 do not need to purchase a yearbook. The senior yearbook is included in the senior fee.

Parking Pass
Students who drive and park at Bishop Feehan High School are required to have a parking pass. A parking pass allows staff to find car owners quickly when car lights are left on (it happens!), if a car needs to be moved, or if there is an accident. You do not need to apply each year as passes are valid through graduation. If you need a pass, or need to update car information, please fill out the google form that can be found on the website under Student Life/Student Resources. Passes can be picked up in the Welcome Center, usually within 24 hours after applying. There is no fee for a parking pass.

School Supplies
All students are required to have an iPad and Math TI-84 Plus Graphing Calculator. During orientation teachers will inform students if they require specific supplies for class - notebooks, binders, etc. All would be basic supplies that you can find at a local office supply shop.

Please be on the look-out in early August for the Opening of School Packet

Sincerely,

Sean R. Kane
