Bishop Feehan High School Athletic Director Gary Doherty announced today that Mr. Dean O’Connor has been hired as the new Boys Basketball Coach.
O’Connor, a Mansfield, MA native and current resident, comes to Feehan with 17 years of head coaching experience at Weymouth High School and Franklin High School and a track record of success both on and off the court. O’Connor has a career record of 263-147. His teams have been to the MIAA state tournament 14 times, including two D1 Sectional Finals appearances.
“We are more than excited to welcome Coach O’Connor to Bishop Feehan,” said Feehan Athletic Director Gary Doherty. “His passion for coaching kids and for the game of basketball and his experience in growing and sustaining overall excellence in a program really shone through in our search process.”
O’Connor added, “I am honored and excited to be the next boy's basketball coach at Bishop Feehan and grateful for the opportunity to be part of such an outstanding school environment. I look forward to creating a positive, fun atmosphere for players to develop and reach their potential.”
The Feehan position marks a welcome return to the local basketball circles for O’Connor, who himself played high school ball at Mansfield HS, then coached at Franklin High School and spent several years as a manager at the Mass Premier Courts facility in Foxboro.
Feehan’s returning basketball players will meet with Coach O’Connor this week. O’Connor will also be the director of both weeks of Feehan’s annual on-campus boys basketball camps.
