Sr. Pat to Receive Hero of Catholic Education Award at Gala

New annual honor will also be named after Feehan’s long-time staffer and legend.

(Attleboro, MA – January 12, 2017)   Bishop Feehan High School is proud to announce that Sister Pat Harrington will be recognized as the first recipient of the school’s new Sister Patricia M. Harrington - Hero of Catholic Education Award during its “Setting Our Hearts” gala on March 25, 2017 at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet in Cranston, RI.

Sr. Pat painted portraitA legend in the Feehan community, Sister Pat started her Feehan career as a math teacher in 1969 and served the school in that capacity and more through her passing in 2015.  She brought the ECHO (Encountering Christ in Others) retreat to Feehan in the 1970’s, a tradition that continues today as a defining part of the Feehan experience.  Generations of Feehan students recall her example of faith and love and commitment to her school and students. Sister Pat was the last Sister of Mercy to serve on the staff at Bishop Feehan High School.

“This will become Bishop Feehan’s highest honor,” noted Bishop Feehan President, Tim Sullivan. “And our honorees will embody the ideals that have allowed Catholic schools to thrive for years and years. No one represents those ideals better from a Feehan perspective than Sister Pat. She lived them daily.”

Sister Pat’s four brothers and sisters – three of them professed religious as well – will accept the award on Sister’s behalf at the gala in March.  Each year thereafter at the gala, Bishop Feehan will honor a long-time Catholic education champion or servant.

Sister Pat’s name will be the first listed on a permanent plaque of honorees that will be displayed prominently at the school.  All honorees will be remembered at the gala each year.

The gala itself is also a new tradition at Feehan.

“The Setting Our Hearts gala is a one-night event that celebrates all things Feehan – our students, our community, and our vision for the future,” said Bishop Feehan’s Director of Advancement, Dave Curtis.

Besides the Hero of Catholic Education award, other highlights of the evening will include an elegant dinner, a limited live auction, a $10,000 cash raffle, a live band, dancing and a celebration of Feehan’s past, present and future.  For more information and to purchase tickets, visit BishopFeehan.com/SettingOurHearts or contact Director of Special Events Sue Rojee at [email protected] or 508.226.7411.
