Bishop Feehan Concert Band Named Best in the Nation

Bishop Feehan High School's Concert Band has been named the 2026 Outstanding Concert Band (Class AA) by the National Catholic Band Association (NCBA), the first time in school history the program has earned this national distinction. Founded in 1953, the NCBA is the governing body for band programs at Catholic schools across the country.

The honor capped a strong competitive season under the direction of Mr. John Knasas. The 2025–26 Concert Band earned top honors at every competition it entered:

  • Gold — MICCA Concert Festival
  • Superior — RIMEA Senior Band Festival
  • Platinum — Great East Festival, Springfield, MA

Four Feehan students also earned individual honors from the Massachusetts Music Educators Association: Aisiri Praveen (Class of 2029, clarinet), Lucy Fabiano (Class of 2029, percussion), Jack Knasas (Class of 2027, clarinet), and Joe Knasas (Class of 2029, trumpet).

"We are incredibly proud to be recognized by the National Catholic Band Association. This honor is a testament to the commitment, hard work, and dedication of our Feehan musicians. We played our most challenging repertoire of the year at a consistently high level throughout the second semester. Congratulations to all!" — John Knasas, Director of Bands

The recognition tracks with steady growth in participation. The 2026 band features 41 members from all four classes. Mr. Knasas also runs a Junior Band program on campus for middle school students from local Catholic and public partner schools. Many Junior Band participants go on to become members of the high school band.

"Our fine arts program and Mr. Knasas' bands are a real point of pride at Feehan. He succeeded legendary band director Joe Taylor and has done a wonderful job building on that foundation — inspiring students to love music and work hard. It's been great to watch the program grow." — Tim Sullivan, President, Bishop Feehan High School
