Summer Information Packet 2023-24

Dear Parents/Guardians,

While we hope you are enjoying your summer, this is a very important email and we ask that you set aside some time to carefully and completely review the information contained here. We wanted to highlight some of the information available on our website and answer some frequently asked questions regarding senior pictures, sports and next year’s calendar. Please note our school calendar is “tentative”. However, we hope this will help families plan vacations for the Christmas Holiday and February/April school vacation weeks. As always, the end of the school year must remain fluid because of snow/makeup days.

Our website calendar is the most up-to-date location to get information about events, but we understand it is helpful to have a quick easy reference as well. Please see one page summary of the tentative calendar for the 2023-2024 school year.

Orientation
The school year starts with an orientation and all students are expected to attend.  Please plan accordingly.
Freshman - Wednesday, August 30 7:40 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. with light lunch included

Sophomores - Thursday, August 31 7:40 a.m. - 12:10 p.m.

Juniors - Thursday, August 31 7:40 a.m. - 12:10 p.m.

Seniors - Wednesday, August 30 7:40 a.m. - 12:10 p.m.

Academics

Parents and students should look carefully through the information found on our academics webpage. This page has important information, especially concerning technology, gmail, and iPad information, and information on textbooks.

School Supplies

All students are required to have an iPad and Math TI-84 Plus Graphing Calculator. During orientation teachers will inform students if they require specific supplies for class - notebooks, binders, etc. All would be basic supplies that you can find at a local office supply shop.

Dress Code/Uniforms
Attire and grooming is a visual representation of a student’s connection to the school. It is expected that the uniform will be neat, clean, and in satisfactory condition. Please take a moment to review the Dress Code guidelines. Uniforms can be purchased through Donnelly’s School Apparel in Cranston, RI. Please visit Donnelly’s Clothing for online ordering and to make an appointment for fitting if needed.

Athletics

ImPact Testing is required by all athletes who are planning to participate in any level of our 3 seasons in the 2023-24 school year. Testing occurs every two years for all incoming freshmen, rising juniors and transfer students. Testing is done at home on a computer. Requests for testing link should be sent to Donna Paulhus, Administrative Assistant to the AD, at [email protected].

All sports participants must have a valid physical (dated within the past 13 months) on file at Bishop Feehan prior to Fall sports tryouts in August. Freshman and transfer families who have not already provided physicals should send copies as soon as possible to [email protected]. Physicals for students in grades 10, 11 or 12 should be emailed to Donna Paulhus at [email protected].

Athletic registration is required on Family ID for each sport season: fall, winter and spring. Please note students may only register for one sport per season.

Fall Tryouts

Fall 2023 sport registrations are open now through Thursday, August 10th

Football and Golf (B) tryouts begin on Friday, August 18th. Tryouts for all other fall sports - Cross Country, Field Hockey, Soccer, and Volleyball - begin on Monday, August 21st. Additional details will be posted online in August.

For questions pertaining to specific sports, please contact the Head Coach directly. Coaches are listed on our web site under Inside Athletics.

Pictures/Yearbooks

Undergraduate Pictures
Students in grades 9-11 will have photos taken for the yearbook on their Orientation Day. Chestnut Hill Studios will email families directly regarding optional purchasing of a school picture or package. Students not in compliance with all uniform guidelines, including hair/facial hair guidelines, will not be photographed.

Senior Pictures
Senior Yearbook portraits are taken by Chestnut Hill Studios over the summer. You are under no obligation to purchase pictures from Chestnut Hill, but only pictures taken by Chestnut Hill will appear in the yearbook. All pictures should be finalized by August 31st in order to meet yearbook deadlines. Watch for an email from Chestnut Hill with details regarding packages. Please remember, while school uniforms are not required for senior portraits, dress must be appropriate, including a shirt/tie and pants for the boys and modest attire for the girls. Grooming must always follow the student handbook including guidelines regarding facial hair, body piercings and hair styles. Any questions, email [email protected].

Yearbooks

Members of the Class of 2024 do not need to purchase a yearbook. The senior yearbook is included in the senior fee. All other students will be notified when yearbook sales begin.

Band
If interested in Feehan Marching or Pep Band please reach out to Mr. John Knasas at [email protected] for additional information.

Campus Ministry
Whether you are a new Bishop Feehan family or just need a refresher, please see up to date information about Campus Ministry and graduation service requirements on our website under Faith/Campus Ministry/Serve. Freshman can use this form to track any volunteer hours this summer.

Nurse’s Notes/Medical Matters
For any medical questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our school nurse, Theresa Javery at [email protected] or 508-226-6223 x117.

Epi Pens

Please take time over the summer months to attend to the paperwork that is required for students who have life-threatening allergies that require the use of an Epi Pen. The pens and the doctor’s order should be ready for, and are expected, on the first day of school.

Diabetic Orders
All diabetic orders are required by the beginning of the school year.

Driver’s Education
Information about Driver’s Education can be found on our website under Student Life/Student Resources. Online classes are offered by an independent contractor who meets the state requirements. Students must be 15 years and 9 months old to start the class.

Parking Pass
Students who drive and park at Bishop Feehan High School are required to have a parking pass. A parking pass allows staff to find car owners quickly when car lights are left on (it happens!), if a car needs to be moved, or if there is an accident. You do not need to apply each year as passes are valid through graduation. If you need a pass, or need to update vehicle information, please fill out the google form that can be found on the website under Student Life/Student Resources. Passes can be picked up in the Welcome Center, usually within 24 hours after applying. There is no fee for a parking pass.

Thank you for your time and attention in reviewing this important information. Please be on the look-out for our Opening of School email containing start-of-school and orientation information in early August.

Sincerely,

Sean R. Kane

Principal
